THE THRESHOLD OF MANY FACES
A kaleidoscope of neon memories bleeding through the skin
THEY SAY THE SOUL HAS ONLY ONE FACE, BUT THE MIRROR OF THE SANCTUARY KNOWS BETTER.
She did not move. And yet, she was never still. Her back was to the camera, but her eyes were everywhere — watching from a place where time has no power to freeze a reflection. A kaleidoscope of neon memories — pulsing electric pink, deep void blue, sacrificial orange — bled through her skin, erasing the boundary between the self and the other.
The light behaved nervously, unable to decide which of her lives to illuminate. At first, it was the classic profile, cold and marble-like. Then, a glitch in reality, and she was turning, multiple identities melting into one another like hot wax. The woman with the dangerous smile. The icon with the weeping blue eyes. The ancient queen with the heavy, clinking silver tiara, whose gaze felt like a patient, ancient curiosity.
And then, the unsettling part. The delayed motion. Her thoughts moving ahead of her, while her bodies struggled to catch up, overlapping in a chaotic, beautiful dance of existence. It wasn't a limp; it was a soul divided, existing in three moments at once.
The Eye appeared. Not where it should be. Not on a face, but breathing through the air, watching from the distorted distance, centered within the recursive spiral of her being. Shadows rippled like dark water along the walls that were now narrowing, pressing in on her. The air grew heavy with the faint scent of wet stone and forbidden dreams.
She looked directly into the lens. Too close. The face was pale, but the eyes were unfocused, watching Something stand behind the viewer. Tall and bent at impossible, unnatural angles. Its head tilted as if it had been waiting centuries for this moment of total metamorphosis.
HEARD THROUGH THE GLITCH
- 01
“You are different. Every time I look, you are someone new.”
- 02
“Which one is real?”
- 03
“I have arrived.” — but the audio warped, low and layered, as if a thousand women were speaking through one mouth.
She is still there. Standing at the Threshold of Many Faces. Waiting for the one person who can recognize them all. Mouthing over and over: “I am here.” But no one knows which “her” she is today.
