THE CAPTIVE SIREN

A mythological Fine Art performance reimagining the archetype of the water spirit. Instead of classic fishing nets, the authors utilize heavy metal chains, which become a symbol of a stark clash between two worlds—the urban, heavy terrestrial element and the free, fluid element of the lake. The project explores the borderline state between captivity and inner wildness, the vulnerability and the hidden monumental strength of a creature shackled in iron on an ancient shore.

“In the 'The Captive Siren' collaboration, Yulia Pazukhina and I move away from conventional fairy-tale aesthetics toward a profound visual drama. Our mermaid on the shore of a wild lake is bound not by nets, but by heavy steel chains. This metal serves as a metaphor for the shackles that the material world attempts to impose on pristine nature and the human spirit. The cold gleam of iron contrasts with the softness of lake foam, the texture of scales, and seashells. It is a manifesto on the fragility of true beauty in the face of brute force, yet also on unbroken grace. Even in chains, the siren remains the ruler of her element, and the water continues to wash away everything superficial, leaving only pure, primal energy.”
